Hello all! My name is Sophia Segal, my hobbies are traveling (pre and hopefully post pandemic) and experiencing new cultures. Reading Harry Potter, running, and spreading as much time as I can with my friends and family. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BA in International Studies with a focus in the Middle East and Africa and a concentration in governance and conflict resolution. After I graduated I had the opportunity to travel to the Middle East (Jordan, Palestine, and Israel) to work specifically on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The internship was focused to hear the stories of the people whose lives are affected by this conflict. I met with refugees who had been removed from their family homes and placed in camps because the conflict is so deep-rooted they arent allowed to go back. But the inspiration that they carry is one of the most amazing things I’ve witnessed. As a stranger they opened their homes to me and fed me till I was so full I felt like I could fall over. They were so kind and generous, it hurt knowing how ignorant our world can be towards these people. I had studied the Israeli-Palestinian conflict my entire college career, but at that moment, and listening to their stories I felt my eyes open in a way that I didn’t notice before because everything I had researched and studied become real people. If my entire life is used to create as much peace as I can for this conflict, I will commit to that 100%.
