United States of America

Hello my name is Ommay Farah. I am a Pakistani American dual citizen. Some of the activities I’ve participated in are as follows:
HOSA- Health Occupations Students of America- I have been in HOSA since 11th grade. In 2019 we competed at regionals and got 3rd place in the Biomedical Debate category. This year I joined the leadership of our HOSA by getting elected the lead communications ambassador. Since then my responsibilities for the club have increased. I make flyers for upcoming events,
and I manage our social media to effectively communicate information with students .As a competitor this year my team placed 2nd in the regional competition as well as placing 5th in the state competition.

Debate- I participate in policy debate which is research heavy. The summer
after sophomore year I attended Dartmouth debate camp for 3 weeks. .At
camp we were taught how to research effectively using google, and we were
taught various debate strategies. My junior year I was the secretary for our
team, and I am currently the captain of the team. As captain I had to help
figure out a way to keep our club viable through a virtual format. For this I
came up with the idea of a buddy system. In this I created a survey that
matched 1 varsity and 1 novice student’s interests and schedules. After this
they were put into the buddy system .The novices have used this to
communicate with older students and ask questions they aren’t comfortable
asking in a larger setting. Our retention rate -even with COVID- has been
higher this year than the past 2 years.

Science Olympiad- I have participated in Science Olympiad since sophomore
year. Through the years I have participated and placed in the following events:
geological mapping, protein modeling, and designer genes, write it do it. With
each of these events I have learned a variety of skills. Protein modeling and
designer genes were biology focused whereas geological mapping was geology
focused, and write it do it was task focused. In protein modeling we had 2
tasks. The first was to prepare to take a test at regionals. The second was that
we had to build a model of the CRISPR-CAS9 system.

Education Trust- I have been a student ambassador with the Education trust
since 2020.Through this program I attend monthly workshops on how to
better my advocacy skills. I have also participated in 3 panels to let educators
know how COVID has affected our education.

Model UN and Youth in Government- I have participated in YIG since
Freshman year, and this past year I was an officer at both MUN and YIG. At

Along with this I learned how to resolve conflicts that the security council and secretariat were having. I was also the red senate clerk at this year’s YIG conference. I have attended the officer training where we learned how to interact with people of diverse backgrounds and conflict resolution.

Scribing- I have recently completed the Scribe 101 course. In this course I learned common shorthand for some of the most common diseases. In this there was also training as to how to assist doctors through scribing, and the benefits of scribing.
