I am a bilingual Colombian American that graduated as an Honors Scholar Student with a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies, a minor in German and a Global Engagement certificate from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2019. During my undergraduate career, I interned in the office of one of the Canadian Members of Parliament in Ottawa and worked as a Political Field Organizer in Michigan during the 2018 mid-term elections and helped various candidates with their campaigns. I also studied abroad and took Spanish for Professionals courses in Valencia, Spain.
In September 2019, I began a Master’s program in Spain at the University of Salamanca, focusing on Nationalism and Conflict Management. I ended up being in Spain during the COVID-19 lockdown but returned back safely to my country in June 2020 and finished my program virtually. I recently presented my Master’s thesis on factors that have prolonged the Syrian Conflict and I graduated in September 2021 . During my graduate career, I interned from October-December 2019 at the United States Mission to the United Nations and focused on 5th committee matters related to administrative and budgetary work. I recently finished an internship in early September 2021 in the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions, within the UN Department of Peace Operations and assisted with different projects such as a virtual assessment mission of UN work in the areas of rule of law and security sector governance in Somalia before joining the Crisis Bureau at UNDP focusing on livelihoods and economic recovery. At UNDP, some of the tasks I have done are researching private sector development in Yemen; researching women’s role in agricultural value chains in Afghanistan; and assisting and participating in a webinar on infrastructure.
