Hello! My name is Maria Macedo de Medeiros.
I am a Portuguese Jurist living between Lisbon and Geneva.
I was always deeply concerned with the environment since I was a young girl and tried to educate everyone around me on how to be more sustainable, have more respect towards animals, and the environment, until one day I became vegetarian and I could not be happier or more satisfied with my decision. I share what I cook on my social media and I see more and more people interested in becoming vegetarian, not only because of animal suffering but also because they see it also helps the planet.
About my education, I have a Law Degree from the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon, in Portugal, and did the Erasmus + Program in Bratislava, Slovakia, at the Comenius University of Law.
That year living and studying abroad could not have expanded more my horizons, not only on a personal level but also, I found that I have a very deep interest in International Law, Social Justice, Human Rights, and Sustainability.
My academic path and life experiences led me to want to do a specialization that would involve these fields and, currently, I am living abroad again, this time in Switzerland, doing a Masters in Diplomacy and International Relations at the Geneva School of Diplomacy. My Master’s Dissertation title is “Sustainable Development in a Collapsing Planet: A problem of morality and ethics?”, and I plan to find ways to incentivize people and change egoistic attitudes.
Globalization, demographics, and technology are commonly featured as the three main drivers of contemporary society. But, in today’s world, there is another dominant feature one cannot ignore: the permanent and widespread conflicts and tensions, at the national, regional, and international level. Being a 90’s kid, and living in the age of media and communication, I felt an urge to connect these circumstances with Law and it soon made sense to me to study privacy and data protection. I am currently doing a Post-graduation Course in Data Protection, Privacy, and Cybersecurity in the European Union, at the Autónoma Academy. I am learning a great deal from this course, and I believe it will help me in solving future conflicts and crimes.
I am studying to be a Judge and I hope I can fulfill that dream, but along the way, I plan to become a Diplomat and help countries achieving Peace and prosperity. I have good communication and teamwork skills, especially since I have lived abroad in two different countries and interacted with many people from different backgrounds and cultures. I speak Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and a little bit of Slovak. I would be very pleased if I could work with refugee cases and displaced people due to environmental disasters or conflict and war.
