Kayun Daniil

Belarus

My name is Kayun Daniil. I am 20 years old, was born in Minsk, Republic of Belarus and currently live here. I am a 3rd year student at the Belarusian National Technical University, Faculty of Marketing Management and Entrepreneurship. I am a Candidate Master of Sports in Swimming. I have been swimming since I was 5 years old. Being the member of the Belarusian Junior Team I took part in international competitions: in 2018 – Germany, Hannover, in 2019 – France, Saint-Dizier. In 2018 – took part in international swimming competitions, which were held in Poland Gozzow Wielkopolski, where won a bronze medal.
In 2018, I’ve graduated from school with a theatrical slant, where always participated in numerous competitions among readers and theatrical performances. I was also the front man during the prom. From the 11th grade of the school to the 2nd year of the University I’d been working on the Belarusian television: I started as a scriptwriter, then became a reporter. Moreover, during my work I’ve gained an experience as a co-host on live broadcasts of youth programs.
In 2019 I’ve established a company that creates advert videos, online broadcasts and makes content for social networks. The name of the company is BulbaMedia. The main clients of BulbaMedia are the largest business forums in Belarus: Business Awakening and ProBusiness, for which we’ve created video content. We’ve shot an advert video for a large Russian bank “Alfa Bank” as well as for other major customers operation in various business areas.

In 2018 I entered Belarussian National Technical University at the Faculty of marketing, management and entrepreneurship. During Belarusian presidential election held in 2020, I’ve been participating in all protest actions, both as part of the student movement and with my family.
In May 2020, I became a member of the initiative group at Viktor Babariko’s campaign headquarter: I was collecting signatures for his nomination as a candidate for President of the Republic of Belarus.
Since June 2020, I have been working with Viktor Babariko’s campaign headquarter’s staff: I took part in creation of campaign videos. My company BulbaMedia was chosen by united headquarter of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to create, develop concepts and shoot campaign videos. Now I’m participating in the creation and shooting of a series of videos for the Coordination Council and cooperating with the working group of a member of the Coordination Council Oksana Zaretskaya.
All the members of my family: mother, father, and elder brother – actively support fair elections. We have participated in actions taken in support for Svetlana Tikhanovskaya since the first action, which took place on July 30 on Druzhby Narodov square in Minsk. Since then we’ve not missed any Sunday March. After 09.08.2020 when Belarusian presidential election was conducted, I’ve been actively participating in all political campaigns: Sunday marches, student’s protests as well as actions, taken in support for striking workers, doctors, and students.
As a member of the Belarusian National Technical University’s Strike Committee, I signed a petition addressed to the University’s principal demanding fair elections and end of violence on the territory of the University, after what the University’s management told me that I would be expelled regardless of my academic performance-for my political views. I feel pressure.
At the date of 01.11.2020, 53 students were expelled from University for their political views. At the moment, I am almost sure that in the nearest future I will be expelled from the University, the administration of which cooperates with the draft committee of the military commissariat and facilitates calling up for military service immediately after the expulsion – while signing enrollment termination order, a draft card to the draft committee of the military commissariat is issued.
I am extremely disappointed in the management of my University, which is not interested in providing sound academic background that would allow me to realize myself in life, but supports the criminal regime.
On 10, November 2020, police officers came to my house to have a “talk”. I avoided the meeting and immediately moved to Ukraine, because I did not feel safe in my homeland. My decision was correct. When the law enforcement agencies found out that I had left the Republic of Belarus, they notified me of the closure of the administrative case that had been initiated against me for participating in unauthorized protests. This fact confirmed my suspicions that at least I would have been sent to Okrestino (pre-trial detention facility) for a day if I had opened the door.
I can’t continue my education in the Republic of Belarus – the University’s management cooperates with the regime and law enforcement agencies.
I want students and active young people to take an active part in the development of their country and the global world in the future. So that for their political vision, students do not fall under repression from the authorities. I want to become the Ambassador of Peace from the Republic of Belarus. And develop a civil position in Belarus.
