Joshua J. Pangelinan

My name is Joshua Joseph Pangelinan, a climate change youth activist and professional from the island of Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. As a curious learner, I strive to understand the global impact and peace initiatives fostered around the world as well as country commitments to climate change. In my early career, I’ve worked for the FSM National Government on ozone protection, the Sustainable Ocean Alliance on plastic pollution, the United Nations Development Programme on climate policy and mitigation, and WSP USA on climate finance and equity. I’ve served as an energy consultant as well to bolster access to low-income communities across the United States.
I received an Honors Diploma from the Junior Statesmen of America Program at Princeton University in 2016 and also studied Renewable Energy and Sustainability in Iceland’s School of Energy, Reykjavik in 2019. I have been proactive in engaging stakeholders and leaders through community engagement, summits, and environmental workshops. Some events I’ve participated in include the World Bank’s Annual Youth Summit for 2017 – 2018 and the United Nations Global Engagement Summit. Currently, I am certified by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and UNDP on climate policy frameworks, climate change and its impact on human health, and indicators for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
The product of my work has always revolved around helping both people and the surrounding environment. I understand the disparities that exist within both our social frameworks and personal capacities. To ensure that vulnerable communities are granted access to basic resources and safe from hazards posed by extreme weather events, I have dedicated my career to learning what solutions are most practical through the lens of different environmental sectors, as demonstrated above in my work experiences.
