ABBEY ABEKOUE JEAN-PHILIPPE PASCAL

Togo

“My name is Jean-Philippe ABBEY, I’m 26 years old, I’m a medical doctor to be, I’m a Public Health Heroe, I’m the co-founder and current president of the medstudent Leaders association (MLA) which is a community of young doctors and medical students in their final years, I’m a committed leader to the achieve the 4th SDG, with 5 years of experience in primary and secondary prevention of non-communicable diseases such as breast cancer, sickle cell disease, hypertension, and diabetes.
I have been coordinating different projects for the prevention of these diseases for a few years now, such as

The MLA TOUR ROSE which is a tour of awareness and primary screening for breast cancer among young girls in high schools in Togo. Thanks to this program, more than 400,000 young girls and women have been equipped with the first method of early detection of breast cancer, which is breast self-examination. You know in Togo, breast cancer is the first cancer that affects the most women and discovered most often late it is fatal reason for which we are committed to break this chain of late detection
We are currently coordinating a fundraising campaign for 2 women who are having difficulties in managing their breast cancer at the Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital in Lomé. Thus we need 8 million CFA francs or about 14,000 US dollars. To date we have been able to mobilize about 1.5 million CFA francs or about 2500 US dollars.
I also coordinated the drepa tour project which is a project that is part of the fight against sickle cell disease which for 4 years has allowed us to raise awareness of nearly 40,000 young women and men in the community. This has allowed us to date to screen more than 2,000 people at reduced costs, mostly young couples preparing for marriage.
I have also coordinated awareness and screening projects for hypertension, diabetes and obesity in several communities in Togo, which has enabled us to reach more than 300,000 people. In this sense, we have launched the ML CARE program, which is a social outreach project for the follow-up of hypertensive and diabetic people at home.

It will be a pleasure for us, you visit our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram pages on social media in order to appreciate the wonderful actions we are carrying out.
I have been certified as Disaster Medecine Trainer and Global Trainer at International Federation of Medical Students Associations
I live in Lomé, I like to swim, I like to travel and capture emotions through photography.”
