I am Emily Brock. I am a Nothing But Nets Council Person and a member of Girls Up. I was the Communications Intern at the United Nation Association of Tampa Bay. This involved me promoting and helping with events and attending United Nations conferences around the country. We held events such as human rights lectures to Picture My Life: A Refugee Story. I have experience in grassroots social justice activism. I am most passionate about the empowerment of those who do not have a voice. If a person is born with certain privileges it is essential to use those privileges to help those who were born without. They have a story, we just need to hear it. There is nothing more important to me than to help those who are needlessly suffering. As a woman who is also in the LGBT community, I know what it is like to feel misunderstood or judged. If we don’t understand those around us, we do not understand the world. We are more similar than we are different. I have been very involved in social justice and community service and I will continue to do so in the future. My country is currently in tumultuous times and I have been doing what I can to ensure that no one’s rights have been violated and they have the assistance or empowerment they may need not only in my country but in others. If you want something you have to go and get it, and I want a future with no human rights violations.
