Alero is an individual with passion in building the capacity of the girl child especially out of school girls and other girls in the community whom families and society has given up on and feels nothing good can come out of them. This is where Alero Thompson comes in, to bring fulfillment to these girls through building their capacities educationally. Alero is also a seasoned educationist with over 8 years teaching experience and founder of Blue Sands Academy, a registered institution that trains young girls in Tech skills across Nigeria. She has impacted the academic lives of over 3000 girls in the northern part of Nigeria. Her girls won the 2019 ICT for Girls National competition, the 2019 Beyond School Competition as her girls took the first place prize and many more prizes won.
Her initiative Sound Her was nominated for “Best Idea” by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and “2018 Overall Best Business Idea North West Nigeria in the Microsoft-Accelerate Labs competition. She is an Autumn School German Fellow where she worked with other German Fellows in Stuttgart Germany. Alero is also a Tony Elumelu Alumni and a 2018 Obama Fellow where she attended leadership training in Johannesburg and learned from great leaders like Barrack Obama, Aliko Dangote, Late Kofi Annan, President of Liberia etc.
She is presently tutoring young girls in STEM Education and Coding to prepare them as future Tech Entrepreneurs. She has scaled in using our technology to build smart societies by training youths in web development, data analytics, web design, App development, Robotics-IOT.
She has been recently appointed as the National Advocacy Officer of African Union Youth Commission and the Director of Events and training by Unite 2030 a youth led organization on the SDGs. She is presently also a Front-end Developer by skill.
